HALF AN HOUR LATER, Axel is waiting for Kairi by lounging on a bench. Mostly because he assumes she wouldn't appreciate him portaling in after she got there.]
[she really needs to remember to tell him to stop calling her that. The rest of the Organization does it, and she's not sure she likes it.]
[that said, she leaves a bit early, in case she gets lost. Wondering if maybe she should have left a message with someone just in case...she feels a little silly. Technically she's supposed to trust him now. But memories of being dragged who knows where by her wrist don't go away too easily. He's bigger and stronger than her, and probably always will be. She presses the fingers of her right hand into her palm as she walks, wondering if she can summon her Keyblade by herself now. She hasn't tried--the thought never occurred to her in the confusion of her arrival here. Maybe she should start thinking about it now.]

[Staying where he is is as a demonstration of his good will than anything else; they both know if he wanted he could be next to her even if she had just been running away. But he's letting her come to him if she so wishes. If she doesn't, they can still talk like this.]
[she nods in reply, linking her hands behind her back. She's really not sure what to make of him at this point, but the thought is slowly forming that maybe she should just start over. If Riku trusts him...let him prove himself.]
[she opens her mouth to reply--then stops as the full force of those words hit her.]
[Maybe Axel is a Nobody himself, but still--her expression darkens momentarily, and she glares at him. She said she'd hear him out and obviously he's decided otherwise by now, but she can't help the knee-jerk reaction to anything that threatens Sora's safety.]
[her mouth twists a bit and she huffs out a breath, trying to calm down.]
Hey, hey, don't make that face, I did my research. You brought him back from that state once before, so in theory, everybody won. Y'know, after initial slight discomfort.
[of course when she asks he just gets this kind of bitter smile on his face]
It's not like I wanted to hurt Sora. He's a good kid. And, I guess deep down, I knew it was better from the very beginning for Roxas. He'd get his heart that way, right? But... Nobodies aren't really big on the whole selfless deal. I just wanted my best friend back. He...
He makes me feel like I have a heart. Y'know?
[Axel tilts his head back, crossing his arms behind his head as he looks up at the ceiling almost pensively]
I guess in the end I just gave up. Nobodies like us don't get happy endings, not without other people-- real people-- gettin' hurt. A Nobody's fate is just to fade away into nothingness. So, I guess when push came to shove, I figured tryin' the whole selfless thing might not be so bad a way to go.
[he drops his arms back and shrugs]
Kid was in trouble an' trying to rescue you, an' that was kinda my fault, right? Roxas and Sora might be different, but they're the same deep down. Around both of them... I feel the same. Or, guess I should say, I feel.
[a beat. wow that was mushy and disgusting quick Axel make it better]
So basically what I'm saying is, don't do a heroic sacrifice for a guy with the memory of a goldfish, 'cause he'll forget the bit about telling someone else you're sorry since you kinda can't 'cause you're dead.
[she keeps up that glare for a bit, but her expression starts to soften eventually. Everything he's saying...it makes sense from his side, and she's grateful she's not being kept in the dark anymore.]
[And those words--she remembers what she spoke to Namine about, and they ring true. Sora's one of a kind heart. The people connected to him.]
You can feel.
[the statement is half a question, a little wary and a little excited. But then her brow furrows.]
Sacrifice--? You didn't--
[Axel died for Sora? She'd heard about the ship bringing the deaad back, seen the Organization members that were supposed to be gone, but it still felt a little far-fetched. But it also seemed like a silly thing to lie about, and if Riku trusted him...]
[and now Sora doesn't remember anything.]

You shouldn't say things like that about yourself...Nobody or not, that doesn't mean you don't deserve a happy ending.
